This original Black Forest Cuckoo Clock depicts the original railroad station cuckoo clock design by architect Friedrich Eisenlohr, who designed it as part of a cuckoo clock design competition in 1850. This clock is lavishly decorated with detail-carved grapevine branches and leaves. The solid wood case is stained in walnut, and has an unusual finish due to the washed look technique of the stain. The solid-wood cuckoo calls the number of the hour on every full hour (e.g. 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 a.m. 3 times) and once on the half-hour. After the cuckoo call on the hour, one of the two alternating melodies plays, to which the handcarved, handpainted folklore dancers turn above the clockface. The clockface, numbers and clockhands are all made of wood. This clock has an automatic night switch off between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. Clockface, numerals and clockhands are all made of wood. The mechanical clockwork runs for a whole week. The clock comes in an original box with complete instructions. This traditional model is crafted by the Hönes company in Titisee, a family business deeply rooted in the century-old tradition of the clockmaking industry, and is well known for its high-quality Black Forest craftmanship.
