The cuckoo opens the door on the hour, chirps and calls out the number of hours with an echo.  There is a switch on the side to turn the cuckoo off separately. A light sensor automatically switches off the sound in the dark, but the time continues to run. This clock is powered by a quartz movement that requires two 1.5V size C batteries.
