This very traditional cuckoo clock with hipped roof and bell tower was lovingly painted by hand with small flowers. The roofs of the house and the annex are, as often in the mountains, provided with stones to protect against storms and against large roof avalanches. Here, the many figures in old Black Forest costumes, all moving to the cuckoo call and music, are a delight. The wooden cuckoo calls the number of hours on the hour (e.g. 3 times at 3 p.m.) and once on the half hour. At the same time, the Black Forest woman pulls the bell rope and rings exactly as many times as the cuckoo calls. After the cuckoo call, one of the two melodies sounds every hour. This is then accompanied by extensive dancing in front of the house and on the balcony, and the water wheel also turns. This model has an automatic night shut-off. The dial, numerals and hands are also made of wood. The mechanical rake striking mechanism runs for a week.
This original Black Forest cuckoo clock is made by the August Schwer company in Schönwald, an owner-operated family business that was founded in 1885.
